How to Make a Passport Size Photo Online at Home

You can make a passport size photo online at home with your phone camera and a free tool. This saves a trip to the photo shop when you need pictures for a passport, visa, Iqama, CNIC, job application or school admission.

Take the right photo

Stand in front of a plain, light-colored wall with nothing behind you.
Face a window or use soft, even light so there are no strong shadows on your face or the wall.
Ask someone else to take the photo at eye level, about one to two meters away.
Look straight at the camera with a neutral face, with your head and the top of your shoulders in the frame.
Remove glasses if they reflect light, and keep hair away from your eyes.
Take several photos and choose the sharpest one.

Check the rules for your application

Each office sets its own rules for background color, size and how much of the face must show, and these rules can change. Read the instructions on the form or the office website before you print or upload.

Online forms also often have a file size limit. Check the size the form asks for, in KB and in pixels if given.

Print copies at home or at a shop

A print sheet puts many copies of your photo on one A4 or 4x6 page. Print it at home on photo paper, or take the file to a print shop, which is often cheaper than a full photo service. Cut the photos out carefully along the edges.

Keep the file on your phone. You can print more copies later without taking a new photo.

Upload the photo to an online form

Many portals ask for a photo under a set size, such as 50KB or 100KB. Save your passport photo, then open Resize Image to KB and choose the size the form asks for.

If you took the photo on an iPhone and the form rejects it, it may be a HEIC file. Convert it with HEIC to JPG first. If there is too much space around you, use Crop Image before making the passport photo.
